Coca-Cola’s new plastic processing hub, a milestone in waste reduction efforts — Zoran Bogdanovic

By Osa Mbonu-Amadi.

Zoran Bogdanovic, the Chief Executive Officer of Coca-Cola HBC, known locally as Nigerian Bottling Company, has said that the newly established Lagos hub to process up to 13,000MT of plastic yearly is a significant milestone in the company’s efforts to reduce waste.

Bogdanovic said this recently during the formal opening of Coca-Cola’s new Packaging Collection Hub in Lagos, Nigeria, which has the capacity to process up to 13,000 metric tons of plastic bottles per year.

“This facility represents a significant milestone in our journey of reducing waste by collecting and recycling our packaging in Nigeria,” Bogdanovic said, assuring that the hub would support local communities through job creation.

The CEO said the company is committed to reducing waste by collecting and recycling the company’s packaging in Nigeria.

Also speaking at the event, Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by the special adviser on Circular Economy, Titilayo Oshodi, described the newly commissioned facility as a symbol of progress and a tangible demonstration of the kind of Corporate Social Responsibility that was needed in Lagos: “This hub will serve as a critical centre for collecting, sorting and recycling PET plastics, which will significantly reduce plastic pollution in our environment,” the Governor said.

The facility aims to boost plastic recycling efforts in the country, contributing to cleaner communities, creating local jobs, and contributing to Nigeria’s plastics recycling infrastructure.

It also seeks to contribute to cleaner communities and drive collective action to help reduce packaging waste by facilitating PET collection, processing materials into clean PET bales, and enabling rPET production through third-party partnerships.
