Kane Thornton, Chief Executive, Clean Energy Council
Kane Thornton is Chief Executive of the Clean Energy Council, the peak body for the renewable energy and energy storage industry in Australia. Kane has more than a decade’s experience in energy policy and leadership in the development of the renewable energy industry. Kane has advocated for and helped design the policies that have been critical to the renewable energy industry’s growth, and continues to be an active political advocate, public presenter and media spokesperson.
His previous roles include senior manager and advisor for Hydro Tasmania and executive officer of Renewable Energy Generators Australia. Kane has broad international management experience having previously worked in technology, living and working in Asia. He has held a range of advisory and board roles with government and non-government organisations in the climate change and energy sector, and is Deputy Chair of Sustainability Victoria. Kane is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, has a Masters in Social Science and Bachelor of Information Technology.
The Hon Lily D’Ambrosio, MP, Victorian Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change, Minister for Solar Homes.
Liliana (Lily) D’Ambrosio is a member of the Australian Labor Party and has represented the electorate of Mill Park in the Victorian Legislative Assembly since 2002. She was appointed the Minister for Industry and Minister for Energy and Resources following the election of the Andrews Labor Government in 2014. In 2016 she became Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change and Minister for Suburban Development.
She remains the only woman responsible for energy across the nine national and sub-national governments in Australia, and is a leading advocate for a modernised Australian energy system that facilitates a smooth transition into a clean, reliable and affordable energy future.
Luke Menzel, CEO, Energy Efficiency Council
Luke Menzel is CEO of the Energy Efficiency Council, Australia’s peak body for energy efficiency, energy management and demand response. Luke leads the Council’s work to make sensible, cost effective energy efficiency measures standard practice across the Australian economy.
Luke sits on a number of government and independent advisory committees, and is Vice President of the Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council (ASBEC).
Anna Skarbek, CEO, Climate Works Australia
Anna Skarbek is the CEO of Climate Works Australia, working to develop the low carbon economy. A former banker and green policy adviser, Anna has led Climate Works since its creation in 2009, analysing emissions reduction opportunities and partnering with business and government to unblock barriers to their implementation. Climate Works’ independent and non-partisan approach, co-founded by The Myer Foundation and Monash University, sees her working with multiple federal government departments as well as State governments and large corporates. She works with other stakeholders including investors, business, environment and civil society leaders.
Eytan Lenko, Executive Chair, Beyond Zero Emissions
Eytan Lenko is the Chair of Beyond Zero Emissions, an Australian-based, internationally recognised climate and energy solutions think tank that shows how Australia can thrive through a transition to zero emissions economy. BZE’s Million Jobs Plan shows how Australia can create 1.8 million jobs over the next 5 years through a clean economic recovery. He is a commissioner on the Northern Territory Economic Reconstruction Commission that is advising the NT Chief Minister on the future pathway for the NT economy.
Eytan has a successful business and entrepreneurship background, he was a founder of Outware Mobile, one of Australia’s fastest growing tech companies which was acquired in 2017. Eytan co-founded Infrastructure Access Managers, a fund manager that aims to decarbonise Australian unlisted infrastructure and is a director of the Australian Environmental Grantmakers Network. Eytan is actively involved in the startup ecosystem both as an investor and a mentor. He is an advisor to the Impact Investment Group’s Giant Leap Fund.
Amanda McKenzie, CEO, Climate Council of Australia
Amanda is one of the best-known public commentators on the climate crisis in Australia. She is the CEO and co-founder of the Climate Council, an independent climate change education and advocacy body. Previously, Amanda co-founded the Australian Youth Climate Coalition and has served on Renewable Energy Expert Panels for the Queensland and Northern Territory governments. Amanda was the founding Chair of the Centre for Australian Progress and is a former Board Director at Plan International Australia and the Whitlam Institute. She holds an Honours degree in Law from Monash University and an Arts Degree from Melbourne University. Amanda has won numerous awards including being recognised as one of Westpac’s 100 Women of Influence and a finalist in Telstra Young Business Woman of the Year Awards.
Ian Learmonth, Chief Executive Officer, CEFC
Ian Learmonth joined the CEFC as Chief Executive Officer in May 2017 with more than 30 years’ experience as a financier and investor across markets in Asia, Europe and Australia. He has worked in asset finance and securitisation, clean energy and major infrastructure projects, as well as pioneering social impact investments.
Prior to taking the role at the CEFC, Ian established Social Ventures Australia’s Impact Investing business which included raising impact and affordable housing funds as well launching Australia’s first Social Impact Bond in 2013.
Previously an Executive Director of Macquarie Group for 12 years, Mr Learmonth has investment banking experience in Sydney, Hong Kong and London. He established and led various Macquarie businesses, notably European renewable energy and carbon credit investments, as well as cross-border structured finance and asset financing in Asia and Europe. Ian has degrees in Law and Commerce from the University of Queensland.
